Tocopherol

What is Tocopherol and How is it Used in Cosmetics?

Tocopherol, commonly known as Vitamin E, is a naturally occurring antioxidant found in vegetable oils, nuts, and green leafy vegetables. In skincare, it is widely used to protect the skin from oxidative stress, nourish and soften the skin, and extend the shelf life of cosmetic formulations by slowing the oxidation of oils and actives.

As a lipid-soluble antioxidant, Tocopherol plays a vital role in maintaining skin barrier function, improving skin texture, and supporting other antioxidants—especially Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) and Ferulic Acid—in defending the skin from environmental damage.
