Important: This product is a concentrated cosmetic raw ingredient supplied for professional cosmetic formulation only. It is not a finished cosmetic product and must not be applied directly to the skin.

Product overview

Ceramide AP is a specialised ceramide used in professional skincare formulation to help build barrier-focused emulsions and lipid systems. It is suitable for formulators developing creams, lotions, balms and other leave-on cosmetic products where a biomimetic skin-lipid approach is desired.

Read the complete Ceramide AP formulation guide for formulators — learn how to disperse Ceramide AP, choose carriers, formulate creams and oil systems, and test stability.

Key information

INCI Ceramide AP
Ingredient type Skin-barrier lipid / cosmetic active
Appearance Refer to the batch-specific COA supplied with your order.
Solubility / dispersion Typically oil-phase dispersible or soluble only in suitable lipid systems; exact behaviour depends on the supplied grade and carrier.
Typical use level Typically 0.05–1%; always follow the supplier’s technical specification and validate the finished formula.
Recommended pH Usually compatible with mildly acidic to neutral cosmetic systems; confirm compatibility for the specific grade.

Why formulate with Ceramide AP

  • Supports the development of barrier-focused creams, lotions, balms and other leave-on formulations.
  • Can be combined with complementary barrier lipids such as Ceramide NP, cholesterol and suitable fatty acids, subject to formula compatibility.
  • Useful for professional formulators developing moisturising and skin-comfort products.

How to incorporate into a cosmetic formula

  1. Confirm the exact supplier specification, carrier system and recommended processing temperature from the batch COA or technical data sheet.
  2. For an emulsion, pre-disperse or dissolve the ingredient in a suitable compatible oil-phase material or lipid premix. Ceramides may require gentle heating and thorough mixing; they are not generally suitable for simply sprinkling into a finished water phase.
  3. Add to the oil phase or lipid premix during manufacture, using the lowest practical temperature and sufficient mixing to achieve an even dispersion.
  4. Emulsify using a suitable emulsifier system. Check the finished formula for uniformity, stability, viscosity, odour and any crystallisation or precipitation during stability testing.
  5. Do not assume that a clear solution will form. The final appearance depends on purity, carrier, concentration, processing temperature and the complete formula.

Formulation notes

Barrier-lipid systems are highly formulation-dependent. Ceramides are commonly used at low concentrations and may perform best when combined with a suitable lipid blend rather than used alone. A small laboratory trial, compatibility check and stability assessment are recommended before production.

Safety and responsible use

  • For use by trained or suitably experienced cosmetic formulators.
  • Do not use neat, undiluted or directly on the skin.
  • Do not use as a substitute for a finished, preserved cosmetic product.
  • Use appropriate hygiene, protective equipment and accurate weighing procedures.
  • The finished cosmetic product remains the formulator’s responsibility, including preservation, stability, safety assessment, labelling and UK/EU regulatory compliance.

Storage

Keep tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. Follow the storage conditions and shelf-life stated on the batch documentation. Allow the container to reach room temperature before opening if condensation could occur.
