Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (THD Ascorbate) is a more stable form of Vitamin C than Ascorbic Acid that is used in cosmetic formulations. It is converted into pure Vitamin C ( Ascorbic Acid) by enzymes in the skin, and unlike Ascorbic Acid, it is oil soluble, allowing it to travel deep into deeper layers of the skin.
Formulation Guidance:
Usage 3% – 30% of the finished cosmetic formulation
It can be combined easily with capric/caprylic triglycerides, C12-15 alkyl benzoates, or Vegetable oils such as Green Coffee Seed Oil, Pomegranate oil, Elderberry seed oil or Rosehip oil.
It must be added to final cool-down phase of the emulsion at 35C or below
It can be added directly to the oil phase of cold-process formulas.
It can be formulated into colour cosmetic products as long as the pigments are coated.
The addition of Acetyl Zingerone and/or Bakuchiol makes the product more effective.
The pH range of 3.5-5.5 is recommended.
Avoid exposure to sunlight or heat. Opaque and airless packaging is highly recommended.
